DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga #49 - Invaders from Distant Seas COMPLETE
Launch bandana man is back on the scene.
They very obviously want you to use Layle for this fight. The enemies have three HP thresholds (79%, 49%, 29%) where they will make themselves highly resistant to normal HP Damage unless you launch them and deal 150K HP damage. However, they also bring themselves right in front of your turns at this point too, making it very difficult to get full launch queues to deal enough damage to break this reduction aura. Layle would get around that easily since his LD allows him to get a full launch queue even if allies are behind the enemies in the turn order, and he launches all the time and allows the party to launch more frequently. However, with Keiss Hero Support, and Tifa having a built-in launch and delay, and Freya having AoE damage to create an extra launch off a Hero Support, I had a lot of options. However I also brought calls that further assist in turn spacing for launches and also initiating launches, to make my timing less strict. Garland friend was also brought to space out the turn order. I intended to actually swap him over Tifa since she had less skills to work with towards the end as you could see, which made things feel a bit tight, but had to swap over Freya due to timing reasons with the thresholds.
This is a bit of an interesting run for me though, as it was very reactionary. It didn't really matter when I used each of my calls or launch options, I just used whichever one was most available when the thresholds came up. I made sure Keiss had some Hero Support left for the last threshold just in case. My summon was also used in a reactionary way. So this fight didn't have as much of a rigid strategy that I needed to execute to win, it was more a case of just reacting to the situations as they came up, making it more fun.
Something I also noticed was after the enemies turn red, they will only HP attack you if their BRV is high, or if they break you. This helped me late in the fight when I had to prevent anyone from being broken so I didn't end below the HP threshold. My Garland friend unfortunately took a big hit that I couldn't heal, and it was just short of taking me below the HP threshold, which meant my main party needed to finish with full HP. Tifa was out of Battle Cry and LD uses by the last stretch but I was able to keep her batteried with some BRV to still do fairly strong damage and help me finish before the last enemy had a chance to do anything. Keiss and Tifa did take fatal blows, but Freya's Last Stand saved them and then healed them back up with HP Regen and Freya AA.
