DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga SUPER BONUS ROUND #2 - Dateless Rendezvous COMPLETE
Another Abyss with restrictions to contend with, but thankfully they didn't lock Freya out so I could still try it. She actually fills the Red Crystal restriction, so she's a natural fit here.
For the Chaos stages leading up to the Lufenia, I used Penelo instead of WoL and it was a cakewalk, but I needed some way to reliably prevent breaks on the party since these enemies can be especially aggressive and punish breaks with their red aura. So I brought out WoL again, and unlike the last two times I used him, he has his BT (I pulled it off the Kurasame banner, but had a "no enemy turns" strat for Kurasame's Lufenia so I didn't need to use WoL). If Balthier's Abyss Lufenia was super easy and safe because of all of the firepower I could bring to it, the Vincent Lufenia was the opposite, where my damage numbers aren't massive but they are consistent and have a nice floor, and more importantly, it's really hard for these nasty beetles to actually do anything, so easy for an opposite reason. Also no turn count to worry about either so such strategies actually shine in Abyss.
I lucked out on Vincent LD so I figured I may as well build him for this stage at least. He's underwhelming IMO, but I feel like this team comp made him shine. Freya and WoL can shower him with BRV battery, and the combination of Vincent's potent debuffs, WoL's shields and tanking, and Freya's Last Stand and healing, made sure we were always safe. I also took Alexander as the summon for good measure.
Vincent's biggest issues are his high turn rate but having low skill counts and no free skills or skill top-ups to speak of. However, his HP Attack++ is also one of the worst in the game, being only single BRV hit and single target with no other bells or whistles. He was literally the first EX+ alongside Cloud, so it's expected that certain aspects of his kit would be underwhelming. His LD attempts to fix this by significantly boosting his ATK and giving him a good follow-up attack. However, it isn't enough to make him a strong pick in many situations IMO, and you very much need to build around him.
However, by providing him with a good amount of BRV battery, he can pretty consistently hit some high damage numbers (around 100K) with just his HP Attack and follow-up, so you're doing damage at a consistent pace. His debuffs are really potent and work well with defensive comps like this one too. Being able to rely on his HP Attack for good damage in this scenario means we dodge both his longevity and high turn rate issues (his HP Attack doesn't have as a high a turn rate as his skills). Additionally, his longevity will be increased further with clever use of debuffing CAs and his own AA, allowing him more turns to keep at least 2 debuffs on the enemy to enable the follow-up attack, therefore conserving his own skills for when he genuinely needs them to refresh his self buffs or use his debuffs later in the fight, or to emergency BRV shave the enemy. With this strategy, I had only used 1 of S1, S2, and LD by the time I got the enemies below 60% HP. Granted, I think these bosses have less HP than a typical Lufenia boss but it still shows how much you can mitigate Vincent's longevity issues. Vincent's own debuffs weren't super needed early in the fight since the enemies don't hit as hard.
I took Ramza as Freya's partner instead of Jack, as I felt two rounds of Ramza's 8 turns of buffs was more meaningful in this strat than 4 turns of Jack's LDCA debuff, and Ramza helps our battery which is our main source of damage here anyway. Ramza's LDCA also allowed me to get a nice Reis' Wind launch with Freya in summon.
Other than what I described for Vincent, Freya and WoL just push buttons for much of the fight, mostly High Jump in Freya's case and then cutting loose with her towards the end.
