
DFFOO JP - Defender Z Raid SHINRYU (Freya/Tidus/Kain)
So funny story - I think this is legitimately the first time I've just had to hold back in a run. Not because of any tricky thresholds or anything like that. I got Tidus FR MLB'd and made him my second character to receive Force Enhancement (Freya will be next, and very soon since she is to show up as a featured unit on Ursula LC), so I wanted to see how compatible his Force Time is with Freya and Kain. Turns out it's way too compatible, as is the team comp in general, because I genuinely struggled to get a decent run of Force Time since the boss HP was melting so fast. My fastest run was around 12-13 turns, but I only got into half of a Tidus Force Time there before finishing the boss. So I tried to hold back a bit so I could see how high I could build Tidus' HP Damage Bonus.
But yeah the bosses are just a punching bag, and for the first time, I'm now actually far outpacing the boss FR gauge. Tidus' HP Damage Bonus in Force Time does not go up as much during Burst, as one of his conditions is to use instant turn rate skills, but it won't count in Burst. For this reason, I think if you are using Tidus' Force Time, the best approach is to use his Burst phase to not only freeze the boss Force Gauge charge and get ahead of them, but also because you can get the BT effect going into Force Time. Then you can summon and by the end, the gauge should be charged and you can use his Force Time. Then when the BT effect is about to expire, use the BT finisher within Force Time for a massive hit and to refresh the BT effect to keep the double follow-ups.
Kain friend was just for show and I could have not used him and still be fine. Freya' and Kain's follow-up damage just adds up to ludicrous degrees here even without Force Time with Tidus being able to exploit instant turns so much. Also, I found a bug where using Tidus FR while Freya or Kain are airborne will cause their UI elements (buffs, damage numbers, etc) to remain invisible when they come back down. Just a visual bug, but good to be aware of if you want to run this comp, as you won't be able to check their buff counts for when to refresh them as intended.
I did also notice some quirkiness with the Force Gauge. Tidus' instant turn rate skills fill it up quickly as expected, but sometimes would taper off after using them too much, but then I noticed sometimes when Freya and Kain did their landing attack coming down from the air, I would get a huge chunk of Force Gauge, especially weird in Freya's case since she doesn't have Force Enhancement yet. Not sure if that's a visual bug or a staling mechanic in play there but it's something to keep an eye on.
Boss only got one or two turns here so yeah these guys are just punching bags.
