This game is infamous. Taking a beloved franchise and putting it on a platform that the fans didn't want, and knowing that it also meant a monetisation model the fans REALLY didn't want. But also just how mobile games are designed is very different.

We know that there are a tonne of videos/reviews for this game and all its problems. I wanted to know about the lore and story. This is set 5 years after Diablo 2, 15 years before Diablo 3. So what happens? The answer .. not too much.

Spoilers, bits of the worldstone that Tyrael destroyed are being hunted and used by token baddies for bad things, you are looking to find them and return them to Cain who is going to try to destroy them.

In terms of leveling, that happened really quickly at first, a bit slower from 10-20.

In terms of gear .. quite underwhelming, a few whites, the odd blue, a couple of yellows later. No signs of sets or uniques. It seems that you "upgrade" rares using gold.

The game is hollow as shit, almost no exploring, it tells you "go this way"

The combat was sort of fun I guess comparable to a Diablo3 barbarian leveling up. I spent most of my time looking at the recharge times on my skills vs other things. I didn't die but had a few close encounters. Boss encounters sort of drag on vs real challenges. I think in the past everyone has memorable fights from Diablo1,Diablo2, Diablo 3 .. not here at least yet. It was they had a lot of health, I was doing my thing, waiting for cooldowns, taking a pot or a moving to a healing globe.

They have built it to slowly open more and more features, and some of it is quite jarring and breaks immersion. One minute you are alone with NPCs, next thing you know, its an MMO and you are sharing the world with others. You are racing to save the life of an NPC .. yet you see another instanced real person who is in the next room. You later see others who are behind you story wise.

At first almost every feature is hidden away, you don't even get told their names, and I still have a few things locked away.

I witnessed some idiot trying to scam people and sell things which I believe you can only purchase in game with real currency. I witnessed lots of random chat and some questionable stuff.

The actual in app purchase requests took a while before it came, first the battle pass, wanting me to pay at least $8 or $25 I think .. I've played a few mobile games so am familar with their tactics of wanting you to keep coming back, to give you some rewards but to try to tease you with even more if you were to give them some money (which I never will).

Just before I stopped, Cain was trying to tell me about legendary gems. Those are the things which are know are loot boxes, just straight up gambling and need real money. Its just built for whales.

But overall, even if every last bit of microtransactions were removed, even if I could play in single player and not see the other random people I wouldn't be excited about this game. Unlike Diablo 1 or Diablo2, I don't have that burning desire to push for the next character level. To try and equip that next bit of gear. It just feels hollow and flat.

I will come back .. one day to try and get to level 30, to see where the story ends before it just devolves to "do rifts and bounties and can you pay us money now please"

To finish, I don't regret my time playing this, but I doubt I'll ever play another class of this game.
