Neve Campbell stated in her contract that she was only allowed on set for twenty days of shooting, and that is why her screen time was reduced to less time than she had in other films of the series. Since her time was reduced, there was more focus put on the supporting characters. She only had three weeks of availability, so the entire shoot was worked around her schedule. Also, there is a scene where Sidney is being chased through her character’s home by Ghostface, and the locations are replicas from the original film. Wes knew that he wanted to revisit the original Scream, and he decided to have the replicas constructed. This scene wasn’t originally in the script, but after the set was constructed, Wes had it added.
