So, here's some more gameplay from when I enlisted a couple of my mates to take part in some 3 player games using the Supermodel network feature.

If you've been following my Supermodel network videos, you probably know this already, but I'll repeat it for anyone who doesn't know: At present, in order to get the Supermodel network running, you need to disable multithreading on the emulators, which makes them run slower than if Supermodel used it's default multithreading option, i.e. using all you PC's CPU cores as opposed to only one like it currently has to in network mode. As the default speed here that we're actually playing at is about 25fps the sound comes out like a garbled mess at this speed, so I've muted it, sped the video up as if it were playing at the correct speed and added new audio in. One of the Supermodel developers mentioned that the actual network itself is exacerbating the slowdown due to the nature of how it sends and receives information and they can actually run games with the -no-threads option (without the network) at 60fps. Experimenting, I found I could run 2 versions of Scud Race, not linked, simultaneously with a frame rate hovering around 50fps, with some dips to about 45 and peaks of around 57. Interesting...

In this race my mate Mark's on the left and my other mate Lights is on the right and I'm in the middle.

One of the biggest improvements to the network recently, is the fact the Scud Race Beginner Day stage is now no longer buggy and filled with graphical artefacts which crash the game. Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge is also now working in the network (previously it was only Power Edition). The network code has also been replaced with TCP which means you can pause the emulation and it won't time out. I think this refers to the fact that now if you close one of the emulators, the other one doesn't hang immediately hang like it used to.

You can download this network build yourself from here (Thanks to Conversus W. Vans from the Supermodel forum for compiling and sharing):
