Disturbing Video Game Music 50: Induction (Original and HD Versions)
50 DVGMs at last! To celebrate, I'm giving you a double dose of disturbing; the two versions of Eversion's Level 8 theme. First, some context for these.
Eversion is all about going through different dimensions, starting in bright and happy Level 1 and becoming more distorted and horrifying as you go further. There are seven main worlds, each with a sense of symmetry; for example, Levels 1 and 7 have enemies that are of the same speed (though 7's enemies look more evil), same with 2/6 and 3/5. In 4, the enemies stop altogether and everything looks... ordinary, like not too good or evil.
Turns out there's an eighth level in the end. The enemies are faster than ever (note there's no happy parallel to Level 8 either!), and the music... Every song in the game is typical 8-bit chiptune music; but Level 8? Synthesized horror. But it's most likely that you'll first find about Level 8 and its music in the game's bad ending... and it is HORRIFYING.
Two versions of this song exist, the first from the original Eversion and the second from the Steam version of Eversion. I find the original is actually more disturbing on its own because of how shrill it sounds... and because of that heartbeat. But the HD version does its musical job better; by being COMPLETELY not chiptune and so out of the usual style of the game that it becomes horrifying in its own right.
That said, be safe, eat tons of candy and HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE!!!
Speaking of these songs... FORUM FANTASY'S OUT TOMORROW! :D
