Rangiuru is a small settlement that lies between Te Puke and Pongakawa on the line from Mount Maunganui to Kawerau. It is close to a kiwifruit-based tourist centre called Kiwi 360.
On this occasion, we find the DL class leader passing through with Train 365 - a Mount Maunganui to Kawerau service. In the background is the road overbridge which ran over the now closed siding that ran to the AFFCO freezing works. AFFCO stands for Auckland Farmers Freezing Company.
This is the same spot where I saw JA 1275 back in 2007, when she was on the Pacific Coast Steamer excursion. Back in the days when they actually bothered to run steam excursions to the Bay of Plenty.
