Do NOT anger Swift Teams - Toytally Fantasy
Issue 003 of this Animated Comic showcases more of the Roadrunner Wildlands while showing off two other Households in the area: One newly moved into the area, and another established Household that has a heavy Star Wars influence. Specifically Stormtroopers! Because who doesn’t recognize Lego Stormtroopers? This also showcases rogue toys for the first time and a fair depiction of Play War where no one can hit their targets to save their lives.
I got a little more ambitious with this one and wanted to see how ‘far’ I can push sound design. A stress test for audio, if you will. In particular, the audio was an experiment and challenge to see if I could balance radio chatter and certain voices that are nowhere near as ‘clear’ as standard ones. They give me the ability to voice more characters without losing distinction, but they introduce other issues like how muffled they sound. The firefight with tracers and Star Wars blaster fire was also a great example of how painful editing all these keyframes can be.
As DDBuilds’ Flagship solo endeavor, Toytally Fantasy: A Ballad to Imagination is an Animated Comic Series that memorializes childhood playtime, but with an adult’s perspective in the narratives. While mainly light hearted and aiming to be an entertaining kick of nostalgia, this successor to Studs and Bolters aims to create many standalone episodes that piece together a vibrant world of toys and models. Rule of Cool and Creative Deviation form its foundation, where popular figures adapt and grow based on their new lives they lived - and the fellow toys and models they interact with!

DDBuilds also does not claim ownership to any of the IP of recognizable franchises: This work is purely transformative art to provide entertainment through nostalgia; showcase DDBuilds’ different art forms (like minipainting and toy photography); and hopefully encourage others to pursue their own creative mediums.
