Here's a strategy to defeat the sponge, to cheese the cheese, to Game the Cube, to... well, you get the idea. This should be a fairly reliable way to win, even if, like me, you're not a pro at this whole dodging balls thing.

First, equip the +20% HP headband on Otto, because he has the most HP to begin with. Then, the main strategy comes from those glasses, which are sold at the shop. They restore 10% of the user's total health every time he catches a ball near the center. This combo allows you to take a lot of hits and still live, as long as you can catch some balls here and there.

It doesn't really matter what you equip on the other two characters here, but you could give Balloony some defense items so he doesn't die as fast. I gave him the bracelet that increases his damage while he's airborne, but I didn't use him anyway. Mina has the grade A report that increases her critical hits by 50%. They both have those 15% lifesteal earrings cause I figured it'd be a good idea to have some heals on every character.
