This is the first part of my 101% completion playthrough of Donkey Kong 64, with version 5.0 of Isotarge's Tag Anywhere patch. This patch allows for switching Kongs at any point (where a buzzer doesn't sound), which cuts down on a lot of backtracking in this long 3-D platformer where many items can only be collected by a specific character. While this was originally going to be one long video, I had to split it into two parts because it exceeded the 12 hour limit YouTube allows per video. This part starts at the beginning and ends after leaving the Gloomy Galleon lobby.

This entire playthrough has a total runtime of 14:02:11, but the footage at the end shows a time of 15 Hours and 17 Minutes in the file select screen because I cut a lot of stuff out.

I started with cutting the gaps between the original 6 recording sessions from which this playthrough was spliced. Then I cut out a few long pauses I made while looking up guides when I couldn't locate certain items. If you notice a sudden dip in the music volume or the distant echoing of a monkey screech, then that's probably where I made one of those cuts.

Finally, I removed a ton mini-game and bonus barrel failures. There were a couple Game Overs in the Donkey Kong arcade; one failure in the mechanical fish; many failures in the final Beaver Bother, Mine Cart Mayhem, and Batty Barrel Bandit bonus barrels; and one NASTY Diddy Kong room inside a cabin in Crystal Caves.

This Diddy Kong room was filled with 8 enemies I had to beat within a time limit, which was excruciatingly diffuculty for many reasons: all the enemies were on high platforms I needed a jetpack to reach, plus this room was one of the laggiest areas in the game, plus 6 of the 8 enemies required oranges to take out, plus Diddy's guitar was disabled, plus there were 5 separate platforms, plus I got knocked off the platforms all the time, plus I ran out of time and failed the challenge so many times that I had to leave the entire level to restock because I ran out of oranges and crystal coconuts!

This video was recorded from an original Nintendo 64; connected via S-Video to a 1080p upscaler. A flashcart was also used to play Donkey Kong 64 with the Tag Anywhere patch applied.
