The first level, known as the Vine Scene, is exactly what a first level should be. It teaches you about the basic platforming and climbing mechanics without offering much resistance. It does get much more hectic in the later loops, though. The object is to climb the vines and jump across platforms to reach Donkey Kong at the top of the screen. Enemies called Snapjaws will be sent after you by Mario. There are two kinds of Snapjaw, indicated by the colors of red and blue. The Blue Snapjaws are simpler and keep going in one direction until they drop off the bottom of the stage. The Red Snapjaws, on the other hand, do not drop off the stage and can turn around.
