Doom Classic video #23
(21.6.1994)

(Links, secrets and more information at the bottom of the description)

Hello. One more classic level for now! Jumping into more of a hitscanner-infested map, effort made by Cliff Pennock.
This is the sort of a early custom-made level, what I often imagine them to be like, when thinking of '94 level for Doom 1: The average dooming gameplay, all keys, all weapons available, boss(es) at the end, hitscanner-heavy and lastly a map that clearly has realistic locations or real life objects crafted into the map (like a pool table for one example)
These sort of maps are often fun to look at just to see, which things have been attempted and if you also get it, what something's supposed to be.

Now, this one has a tiny moments of excessive, specific item placements. Even though the story mentions Light Amps at the start, to have multiple in such a small area, is strange.
And another one is 4x SS' in a single secret. I suppose non-marked health-secret could be 3rd.
Other than those, it's more of just the usual type of bigger advantage given to the player with ammunition that starts to pile up as you go along.

So yeah, this one isn't hard at all on vanilla even, when it has 256 monsters and a lot of them are hitscanners... but hitscanners can be rather dangerous in Hard Doom, however. If you end up in the worst possible scenario with a rare spawn of a shotgunner-type, you could get deleted in one shot, but that's pretty rare.
Another possible harder encounter comes at the end, when you wake up 3 cyberdemons. You don't want to deal with multiple cybs at a time, so that's best to deal more carefully.
Otherwise it's rather decent target practice throughout the level.

As mentioned before, there are few unmarked secrets in this one and I only checked those up, until I had found every thing for the stats. Generally easy to figure out the location, but hard to figure out at the spot, where the entrance is at.
I did run into one scenario of getting stuck in a level and can see another one as well.
1) Flipping switch to open wall for Blue Key area, alerting monsters that can reach the opened entrance, can end up using the door-sector, changing it into an actual door that can be only opened from inside.
Without getting Blue Key before this, you will be stuck.
2) Yellow Key allows two tries to get it... If you fail both times, it's out of reach.

Overall it's quite classic type of an early custom wad with a lot of easy enemies thrown in, which you can often run through quite quickly compared to numbers at the start.
Not a bad one. Pretty chill, average-looking dooming experience that you can certainly play through at least once!

Next time I'll most likely throw a bit of Selaco into the mix, and for 24th classic Doom it'll be a full episode of levels at some point.
