Hello. Delivering another Doom-video with a level that was made by Jason Ingram (aka Widowmaker). This one is rather good for being an early wad, as far as overall gameplay goes.
• Ammo balance is tuned rather well compared to most of the other wads from '94. You don't get too much or too little of it. It does give you more health and armor than what you'd really need, but it doesn't shower you with them either.
• Difficulty feels more thoughtful with encounters that you run into. Some traps here and there, but also non-trap encounters can feel more intentional. Also you don't get stuck on damaging blood floors or behind things, so you don't need to worry about that scenario.
• Visually it's not up there with the quality, but it's not bad either. I suppose it's controlled in a way, but not the type of making impressions.
• Secrets were mostly okay as well. They were mostly rather obvious, so it almost felt like they weren't even secrets. I'd say there was one proper secret and rest of them you just know or go through just to learn, that it was a secret.
Any negatives? I wouldn't actually say that I came across any other than, what would be more about personal opinions rather than problems in the level. It could have visual improvements, of course, but there's often no limit to that sort of work in a sense.
So, overall a rather good early one. Good balance, rather quick and seemingly problem-free too!
