DOOM 2016 (Arcade mode) - LINUX with Proton Steam Play compatibility layer
First test with Proton - the Steam Play compatibility layer [*].
For this test we'll use the game "certified" to work by Valve: Doom 2016 using Vulkan mode, with every graphic settings put to the MAXIMUM.
This is nearly a "native port" cause the Vulkan library is used all the way ...
The game is silky smooth. The first environment from "UAC level" is always nearby 120-145 FPS (Without recording). The CPU is at 50% with one core used to the max ... and the GPU seems to be used at max.
Of course, some FPS are lost in the recording.
Note that by default the game was automatically configured for my PC specs (a bit less than Ultra, I suppose it gives a more stable frame rate for the whole game).
This layer is in beta test right now... So there will be some tweaking on Valve side to make every games install efficiently and perform at best frame rate. For now lot's of games not listed in the announcement don't work well with proton but already work with Lutris and DxVk :).
Making these videos is time consuming .. so like always... if you find this video helpful - LSS - Like Share and Subscribe - or make a good social media post about it =) .. Thank you!

[*] The Proton compatibility layer uses technologies developed for wine. Proton, the tool that Steam Play uses to provide Windows compatibility, contains a custom version of Wine as well as additional libraries developed alongside it.
Wine is free but you can support the development by buying a copy of a CrossOver product from Codeweavers at https://www.codeweavers.com/products
https://www.codeweavers.com/about/blogs/jwhite/2018/8/22/wine-and-steam-a-major-milestone
Supporting wine development helps you get the best performance with Proton on Linux.
And you already support Valve by buying games on Steam :D.
Important Remarks:
1. All games bought on steam and played on Linux client (including using the proton compatibility layer) count as a Linux purchase !.
2. Also support companies that ports games to Linux directly by buying "real" native ports !.
@ Bethesda: it was an easy port for you, and you failed us ...
@ Id software: we love you guys !
We'd love to play the native ports of Doom 2016, Doom eternal and Wolvenstein II :) !
