Oh dear.

Yes, it's that WAD. The one made by Eric Harris. THAT Eric Harris.

Loner.
Headcase.
Murderer.
Crap WAD author.

What makes this one crap? Well to be honest, it's not really complete shit. It's just completely average in every way, and most of it's pretty tedious. The only reason this WAD is well-known is because of the author; this WAD gathered a fair bit of attention after the events of Columbine, and it has never really gone away since.

If this was made by anyone else, it would simply be a turd in a sea of turds. Simple as that.

But that's enough bullshit pseudo-history. Let's talk about the WAD itself.

This is MAP01. It starts off like 9001 other maps from the time, and for the most part plays like them too -- right down to the obligatory Cyberdemon standing around less than five minutes into the adventure. He doesn't particularly do much except stomp around a bit and waste some Hellknights. This bit turns out to be somewhat pointless anyway, because there's not really anything of worth out there anyway. The journey to reach the exit continues...

...when for some inexplicable reason, almost right at the end, the style suddenly turns into something rejected from Hell Revealed. Shit just comes pouring out of a set of teleporters, but unless you want to slaughter everything (as I do here), it's almost all completely avoidable (save for some newly-arrived stuff at the exit). What a waste. He couldn't even get a basic slaughter design right.

There's really not much to say about this one though, try as I might. It's standard stuff with all the usual 'My First Map' features (Cyberdemon, BFG9000, Megasphere), all within some tiny little techbase. It's playable, but it's nothing special unless you want to kill a bunch of stuff without really trying.

Oh yeah, there's a few new sprites and sounds. The sprites don't do anyting except add some shoddy-looking gore effects to a few enemy death animations. The edited sections stand out horribly if you check the sprites. As for the sounds...

...they suck balls.
