[DOOM II] No Chance - HNTR-max in 18:36
Map: No Chance (nochance.wad MAP01)
Difficulty: Hey, Not Too Rough
Source Port: PrBoom+ 2.5.1.5 (-complevel 9)
Time: 18:36
I've been playing a bunch of Doom and Doom II over the past year or so, but never uploaded any videos of it here. So here's both a test of my -viddump settings (hopefully the defaults are fine, but if not then I'll have to readjust for future videos) and a run I thought would be interesting to upload.
About the map: "No Chance" is a map notorious for its extreme difficulty on Ultraviolence. To date, only a handful of people have managed to complete it on that difficulty without saves. However, the map is far more reasonable on the lower difficulties, highlighting its strength as not only a difficult map, but also a fun one. To give an idea of how drastically this map scales by difficulty level, while Hey, Not Too Rough (easy) has "just" 414 monsters, Hurt Me Plenty (normal) has 605 monsters, and Ultraviolence (hard) has 1058 monsters! Of course, the higher difficulties don't just add monsters, they also replace monsters with harder ones, so it's an even greater difference than it sounds.
About the run: I got all kills and secrets (there's only one), and also all items even though I wasn't aiming for that. It's not a fast run by any stretch of the imagination (Ancalagon's UV-max is just about 6 minutes longer than this), but this is my first exit on this difficulty so I was playing rather conservatively. There are already videos of UV and HMP difficulties by players much better than me, but I didn't find anything for HNTR, so I thought this would be a worthwhile upload. I also recorded a demo for I'm Too Young To Die (very easy), but don't see much point in uploading it since it's the same as Hey, Not Too Rough but with double ammo and half damage taken.
