Preacher is a 9-map (+1 credits map) wad for Doom II created by Darch, who is also known for GZDoom mod Pirate Doom. Preacher was released in 2018 and won a Cacoward that year (there are also development versions dating back to 2014).

Preacher boasts several distinguishing traits. The first is the Dark Ages Christianity theme; in addition to the maps themselves, most of the weapons and the basic humanoid enemies are reskinned according to this theme (though none of their behaviors are changed). Items are also reskinned - armor comes in the form of bibles and crosses, and soul spheres and megaspheres are now "Jesuspheres." The player character is turned into a cultist from Blood, and shouts a bunch of lines which I think are also taken from the game. Some of the music is provided by Those Poor Bastards, though it mostly shows up outside the main gameplay and the only one you'll hear in these videos is the intermission music.

The other distinctive features of Preacher concern its gameplay. All the maps have open and nonlinear layouts that allow enemies, and the player, to flow around them freely. Additionally, start locations are pseudo-randomized by means of a circular teleporter where each line making up the circle is a separate teleporter to a different location on the map. These features combine to give Preacher very dynamic and unpredictable gameplay. It's this "dynamic" feeling that attracted me to this mapset, and though that can make it somewhat of a pain to speedrun (especially when cleaning up monsters at the end), the maps still feel fresh to me and I had a lot of fun playing them.

Preacher's first map, "Pagan Temple," serves as a good introduction to what you can expect from the rest of the set. Nothing too unusual here in the overall layout and map progression, though a cyberdemon guarding the blue key reminds you that the map's not messing around.
