Doom II: Painless Elementals (The Lost Soul Limit)
Shows an instance in Doom II where Pain Elementals attempt to launch Lost Souls but cannot, a situation that essentially makes them harmless. This was recorded on level 9, The Pit, at Skill 4, Ultra-Violence.
In Id Software's original Doom II game, Pain Elementals normally attack by launching 1 Lost Soul at a time. But they are unable to attack if there are 21 or more Lost Souls already present on the level. The launch animation is shown, but no Lost Soul is generated. (See also • Doom 64: Painless Elementals (The Lost Sou... for a similar example from Doom 64.)
There are a few other levels in the game where this can technically occur, but this level was chosen since it allowed a fairly quick and reliable demonstration.
When playing this level at Skill 4 there are 33 Lost Souls already present at the start.
