Lazy video is lazy... deal with it.

So anyway, what is this shit? It's the strangest way of being 'invulnerable' to enemy attacks, that's what.

How does it work?

In Doom, certain sector specials only take effect if the player is on the ground within that sector (be honest -- it'd be completely shit and practically game-breaking if lava still caused damage while you were in the airspace over it). However, on a technical level (and down to the engine's 2.5D nature), a player can still be 'in' that sector at any height, provided the mid-point of the player's area is above said sector.

It is impossible to actually die while in any sector that uses the type 11 special (-10/20 and end level) -- or whatever the effect number is in other formats -- and as such, weird shit like this is possible instead. I can't (and won't) die no matter how many times I am hit, but because I'm not touching the floor the sector special can't take full effect and end the level either.

It's not a particularly useful 'feature' of the engine though. I only found this out because I was fucking around on a map involving much leaping from platform to platform (all surrounded by a floor using this sector special), while trying not to be cremated by OHK homing rockets spawning from the walls. One hit me in mid-air, but instead of turning into a pile of soggy gib-steaks, I just fell for a few seconds on 1% and exited the level on landing.

And that's that. Pseudo-lesson over, you can go away again now.
