New level for Doom3 by Psimorph. Previous work from this author was featured on this channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfnQ_gIvXc0

We are greeted by original architecture accomplished by creative use of textures that come with the game. But this is only the beginning: at 03:29 there is one of the biggest wow-moments in Doom3 modding history.

Totally new, never-before seen kind of environment: artificial landscape carved by the ancient martian civilization. An absolute feat of creative thinking about what can be done with the tools that come with the game. Realization of this area didn't require use of any third-party 3d modelling tools, because due to being artificial the place would look great even if made with Radiant's patch meshes.

Grey and white metal of power stations and archaeologists' base add excellent contrast and variety to brown outdoor landscape. The base has a well done buildup, because for a while you can see what's inside through the windows, but can't enter it. Just like at the beginning of the map, the indoor architecture is creative and original.

Only thing that can be considered a flaw by some players is difficulty of the battles. Enemies are placed in a way that makes their attacks more dangerous than they usually are, and sometimes Arch-Ville hides in dark faraway corner, making you waste a lot of ammo without advancing until you understand what's happening. Some way to increase chances of Arch-Villes being noticed, more cover and some way to quickly move around the area might have make them more enjoyable.

But overall, this is one of the best Doom3 maps ever made, thanks to very creative use of the game's textures and introduction of new kind of environment - martian artificial landscape.

And, possibly, one more original environment to come: the readme file says that initial idea of the level was a big cave with huge home where ancient martians lived, but it had to be cancelled due to becoming too big for IdTech4 to handle when less than half of the planned work was done. This idea sounds interesting and I hope that the author won't abandon it, and in the next level, some time after exiting the temple, we'll find that house on one form or another.
