Un vídeo en el que muestro cómo instalo Windows 98 Second Edition y el driver 3DFX en DOSBox-Pure de RetroArch, para emular juegos antiguos de Windows y con posibilidad de aceleración 3DFX de la época.

Si no tienes W98, busca "winworldpc" en Google. Ahí hay muchos sistemas operativos antiguos, a la derecha suelen tener claves de instalación.

El proceso es extremadamente sencillo:

(teclas importantes: "F1" para acceder al menú de RetroArch; "Bloq Despl" para cambiar el foco del teclado entre DOSBox Pure o RetroArch)

1º Ponemos la ISO de W98 y de los drivers dentro de una carpeta "download" en el directorio de RetroArch
2º Iniciamos RetroArch, descargamos el core de DOSBox-Pure
3º Cargamos contenido (el directorio "downloads" sale automáticamente)
4º Seleccionamos la ISO de W98
5º Nos aparece el menú de DOSBox Pure (pulsamos "Bloq Despl" para no tener problemas con el teclado), seleccionamos "Boot and Install New Operating System"
6º Seleccionamos de cuánto espacio queremos el disco duro C: virtual, con 512MB basta porque los juegos se pueden instalar en la unidad D: virtual DOSBox-Pure crea, la cual cambia automáticamente con cada ISO que carguemos
7º Seleccionamos "Boot from CD-ROM" (cargar desde el CD-ROM)
8º Seleccionamos "Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM" (iniciar la instalación de Windows 98 desde el CD-ROM)
9º Seguimos los pasos de la instalación de W98, con elegir todo por defecto basta, no tiene mucho misterio

Para instalar los driver en 3DFX ya en Windows:

1º Pulsamos la tecla "Bloq Despl" si tenemos el foco en Windows
2º Pulsamos F1 para el menú de RetroArch, seleccionamos "Disk control" (control de disco), con esto cambiaremos de CD-ROM en nuestro W98 virtual, seleccionamos la ISO de los drivers (aquí metí también los drivers de la tarjeta S3 Trio, pero no son necesarios, W98 ya los instala)
3º De vuelta en W98 con F1 (y pulsamos "Bloq Despl" para tener de nuevo el foco del teclado en W98), seguimos los pasos como muestro en el vídeo
4º Una vez instalado, doble clic en ambos archivos de registro "OpenGL.reg" y "Optimize.reg" de la carpeta del driver para insertarlos (se me olvida hacerlo en el vídeo)

En el próximo vídeo mostraré cómo instalo y pruebo en este W98 algunos juegos con soporte 3DFX.

A video in which I show how I install Windows 98 Second Edition and the 3DFX driver in DOSBox-Pure from RetroArch, to emulate old Windows games and with the possibility of 3DFX acceleration of the time.

The process is extremely simple:

(important keys: "F1" to access the RetroArch menu; "Scroll Lock" to switch keyboard focus between DOSBox Pure or RetroArch)

1º Put the ISO of W98 and the drivers inside a "download" folder in the RetroArch directory
2º Start RetroArch, download the core of DOSBox-Pure
3º Load content (the "downloads" directory shows automatically)
4º Select the ISO of W98
5º The DOSBox Pure menu appears (press "Scroll Lock" to avoid problems with the keyboard), select "Boot and Install New Operating System"
6º Select how much space you want the C: virtual hard drive have, with 512MB it is enough because the games can be installed on the D: virtual drive DOSBox-Pure creates, which changes automatically with each ISO that is loaded
7º Select "Boot from CD-ROM"
8º Select "Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM"
9º Follow the steps of the installation of W98, choosing everything by default is enough

To install the 3DFX drivers in Windows (once W98 is installed):

1º Press the "Scroll Lock" key if the focus is on W98
2º Press F1 for the RetroArch menu, select "Disc control", with this we will change the CD-ROM in our virtual W98, select the ISO with the drivers (here I also put the drivers of the S3 Trio card, but they are not necessary, W98 already installs them)
3º Back in W98 with F1 (and press "Scroll Lock" to have the keyboard focus again in W98), follow the steps as shown in the video
4º Once installed, double click on both the "OpenGL.reg" and "Optimize.reg" registry files in the driver folder to insert them (I forgot to do it in the video)

In the next video I will show how I install and test some games with 3DFX support on this W98.
