Previously, Davilas got his Mage vocation up to Level 49. This is close enough to Level 50 for me to feel comfortable starting up the Mage vocation quests for him.

Right away, he takes the train to the port town of Rendoa (time 1:35). When he arrives, he sets a Ruura Stone to this town, hires a support party, and lists some items on the bazaar. I notice that you can now hire support characters that are about three levels higher than your highest-leveled vocation. That is a pleasant change.

Then, at G-4 in Southern Rendoa's inn, Davilas has to rest for the night to accept the first Mage vocation quest (time 11:13). This is similar in concept to Dragon Quest IX, where you have to stay in the Alltrades Abbey inn to accept Mage vocation quests. In this game, rather than being accosted by fairies in his sleep, Davilas is instead confronted by a voice named Ryunan from inside a mirror or picture. It assigns Davilas the Level 30 Mage task, Quest 062. Davilas must travel to Gerd Strait southeast of Glen and defeat a Gacha Cuckoo with the Io/Bang spell.

Before leaving town, Davilas collects his mail (time 15:02). When this is done, he puts his earnings into the vault.

Then, he zooms over to Glen (time 18:39). Out in the Eastern Glen wilderness, he takes the carriage to Gerd Strait (time 19:15).

The Gacha Cuckoos can be found in the southern caverns of Gerd Strait (time 21:01). After a couple of tries, Davilas properly kills a Gacha Cuckoo with the Io/Bang spell (time 22:05).

Afterwards, Davilas zooms back to Rendoa (time 24:01). At the inn in Southern Rendoa, he rests again so he can report in (time 25:00). Ryunan, the apparition in the mirror or picture, appears again. Including the obligatory experience, orb experience, and fame, it rewards Davilas with Mage Boots. Quest 062 complete!

When the completion dialogue is done, a montage plays (time 27:07). Davilas is not done with the voice in the mirror, not by a long shot.

Next, Davilas rests at the Southern Rendoa inn again (time 28:19). During his stay, Ryunan, the apparition in the mirror or picture, appears. It assigns him Quest 063, the Level 35 Mage task. If my interpretation of the quest is accurate, the glass needs cleaning. To this end, Davilas must use the Mahotora/Drain Magic spell to absorb a total of 100 MP from enemies. This will apparently power up the Mage Duster key item that Ryunan is giving Davilas here. This is actually good news, because Davilas will also be able to fit in a little grinding while performing this task. The goal of 100 MP seems a bit tedious, and it can be, but I managed it in about half an hour. The good news is that it does not have to be done in any particular location or from any particular enemies; the enemies just have to have MP that can be stolen.

Davilas will fit in another grinding session in the Witch Wood, so he zooms back to Rhone Forest (time 32:01). In the northeast, he exits to the Witch Wood (time 36:09). The Flower Zombies seem to have a decent amount of MP to steal, as well as experience to earn. Mahotora is a bit random, of course, so be persistent.

During this process, Davilas reaches Mage Level 50 (time 49:54). He gains 4 skill points, which he puts into the Magic Staff skill for a total of 19.

After some time, he has drained a total of 100 MP from enemies (time 53:52). He zooms back to Rendoa after that.

In Southern Rendoa, he sleeps at the inn once more so he can report in (time 54:54). Davilas polishes the glass of the picture or mirror, and it shines brighter than before. Ryunan rewards Davilas with a Mage Hat, among the usual experience, orb experience, and fame. Quest 063 complete!

Another montage shows after the quest completion (time 57:40). It appears Davilas will head back to Fosuteiru Square near Orufea for the next quest.

Before signing off, Davilas puts some more materials up on the bazaar, retrieves his earnings from the post office, and stores some money in the vault.
