Dragon Quest XI (PC) Playthrough, Part 1 of 7 - NintendoComplete
669A playthrough of Square-Enix's 2018 Japanese-style RPG for Windows PCs, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
This is the first part of a multi-video playthrough. I am making the videos as long as YouTube will allow to minimize the number of parts I have to break the video into.

This is an "in-progress" playthrough, which is a first for me. I've never uploaded part of a game video before without having the entire thing finished beforehand. But, this is a massive game, and it's one that I think will strike a very special chord with longtime fans of the series.
I mean, how many of us first experienced the series for the first time in the early 90s with Dragon Warrior on the NES?
I'm absolutely in love with the game so far, and I don't anticipate it being too long before I have the thing finished and ready to go. I just can't seem to help but binge play it every chance I get.
Oh, and this game is f***ing gorgeous. Make sure to crank the video quality settings up to 1080p60 - the file I uploaded was massive. I really tried to maximize the potential quality for streaming, which is a challenge when you're compressing nearly 12 hours of 1080p60 video down to a file size that respects YouTube's cap of just a bit over 100gb.
The content in the PC version I'm playing here is, I believe, identical to what's in the PS4 version, but the PC version looks better. It's not capped at 30fps, you can change various detail settings, and it can be rendered natively at 4k , not that anyone is likely to play it at 4k at an unwavering 60fps on current hardware...
I am running the game at 1080p60 with all of the settings maxed out. You might notice an occasional frame drop or hitch in big city areas or when its streaming in new assets, but it generally runs pretty smooth, and by having it installed on a SSD, there load times are virtually nil. For reference, I'm playing on a 2-year-old laptop running an i7 6700HQ (running stock speed of 2.6ghz), 8gb GTX 1070 for video, and 16gb of RAM. The whole thing was recorded with Shadowplay at the max quality recording settings. Before I ran the source through Handbrake, this was an obscenely huge file.
I really hope you enjoy my playthrough of this modern masterpiece, and I'd appreciate any feedback.
Please note that this is a blind playthrough. I've never played it before (it was only released in English last week!), and I've not read anything about it beforehand because I didnt want to spoil any of the story for myself. The story is excellent ... at least it is so far. I dont anticipate that changing though ;)
This is as slick of a high budget game as I've seen recently, and it feels like an NES game. If you're at all interested, goo buy yourself a copy. You won't regret it.
