Dragon Warrior II [NES] Playthrough #19, Road to Tuhn: Watergate & Water Flying Cloth
This is video #19 in my Dragon Warrior II playthrough. From the town of Beran, the party returns to their ship and sails around Beran Island. To the east of the northern side of the island, they begin sailing up the northwestern river that drains into the sea from the nearby continent. When they land at the northwest hills, they take a long hike through the Tuhn highlands. There are dangerous enemies around here, including Horks, Hunters, and the dreaded Hibabangos. Alas, brave Kailin is killed during the journey. As you can see, if a party member is killed in battle, the overworld music regresses to the minor-mode melody that plays at the beginning of the game.
Eventually, Heorot and Talint reach the village of Tuhn (time index 9:05), the last town in the game. One soldier says that the weaver who makes the Water Flying Cloth lives in this town. Fortunately, the party finds the priest to revive Kailin quickly.
The master weaver lives in the house closed by the Golden Key door. Since the party has his loom and the Dew's Yarn, he will start making the Water Flying Cloth. Unfortunately, it will take some time. He will not finish, in fact, until you save and reload the game. Sadly, the party cannot save in Tuhn.
One person says that Roge Fastfinger stole the key to the town's water gate. Fortunately, the party has already recovered that key from him. The party must open the watergate in order to fill the river bed nearby so that the party can sail to the Tower of Moon. The watergate is in the northwest part of town (time index 12:35). The Jailor's Key will unlock the door leading into the watergate house. Downstairs, the Watergate Key can be used to open the watergate.
Next, the party returns to Beran to rest, save, and reload. After that, they head back to Tuhn. While they are headed back, Kailin reaches Level 13 (time index 23:10). They even manage to kill a Metal Slime. Unfortunately, Hibabangos make short work of poor Kailin yet again. As they near Tuhn, they see that a new water channel has opened southwest of Tuhn.
Back in Tuhn (time index 26:55), the party gets Kailin revived (again) and then gets their Water Flying Cloth from the master weaver. This body armor is great for Kailin and Talint. In fact, there is a certain trick for getting two of them, but I will show that off later.
Fortunately, that super-duper expensive Mink Coat still sells for a pretty penny.
However, the party's next dungeon will not be the Tower of the Moon near Tuhn. Instead, they will head to the Lighthouse, which is in the sea west of Hamlin. To that end, they stop at Hamlin to rest.
Thanks for watching!
