Dragon Warrior II [NES] Playthrough #20, The Lighthouse: The Star Crest
This is video #20 in my Dragon Warrior II playthrough. The Lighthouse is on an island due west of Moonbrooke Castle. The Lighthouse holds the Star Crest. This is, in fact, the only treasure I will be going for here. There are also a couple of chests with Gold, one with a Chain Sickle, and one with a Fairy Water, but I will not be going out of the way for those.
When they reach the Lighthouse (time index 4:10), it is not long before Talint reaches Level 17 and learns the invaluable Stepguard spell. It is not too long before Heorot reaches Level 19, either (time index 6:40). To reach the stairways on the first floor, the party must go counterclockwise around the outer wall of the tower until they get to the middle of the east wall, where they cannot keep going around. Then, they go a little west and go down the parallel passageway until they can go further west to an inner hall. To the north, they can go through the indentation to a room with a stairway. However, there are four stairways here, arranged in a 2x2 square. The party wants the stairway in the southwest corner (time index 12:20).
This leads them up to the southwest part of the second floor. The way forward here is pretty simple. The party just has to go around west, south, and east to an up stairway directly south of the one they just used.
Upstairs on the third floor (time index 12:38), the party goes west and north. In the next room, they take the next stairway they see upstairs.
Up on the fourth floor (time index 14:02), they will be along the middle of the western part of the floor. They have only to go counterclockwise around the wall north of them until they reach the up staircase in the northwest corner.
The party will arrive in the northwest corner of the fifth floor (time index 14:17). Again, the way is pretty simple. The party goes east to the wall and then turns into the room to the south, where there is another stairway.
Up on the sixth floor (time index 14:28), the party will be in a room in the northeast corner of the floor. That big door in the corner can be opened with the Golden Key. Out in the hall, the party can only go to the up staircase in the northwest corner.
On the seventh floor (time index 15:33), the party winds their way east and south. Hey, look, a monster! When the party follows it south, they see a wizened old man in its place. Methinks this monster is in disguise. Anyway, this guy will lead the party straight to the crest. He guides the party down the down staircase in the extreme southwest corner.
Down on the sixth floor (time index 19:12), the party will be in the southern corridor. The guide leads them to the down staircase in the southeast corner.
Down on the fifth floor (time index 19:20), the party will be in the eastern corridor. The guide leads them north to another down staircase.
Down on the fourth floor (time index 19:26), the party will be in the southeastern corridor. The guide leads them southwest to another down staircase.
Down on the third floor (time index 20:16), the party will be in another southeast corridor. The guide leads them east and north to the final down staircase.
On the second floor (time index 20:23), the guide will lead the party into a small room to the west. To an empty chest! It's a trap! A group of four Gremlins ambushes the party. Hopefully, they do not put the party to sleep. Otherwise, they are not too hard to deal with. When they are defeated, the party finds the Star Crest!
As I said, there really isn't anything else worth going after in this Goddess-forsaken tower, so the party leaves with the Outside spell and then teleports back to Beran with the Return spell. Back in Beran, they rest up and save in preparation for the next location. They also get a third Shield of Strength for Heorot to carry around so that he can heal himself in battle.
There is only one more Crest to find, but that will be in the highly dangerous Road to Rhone. The party needs the Eye of Malroth to get into the Road to Rhone. The Eye is in the Sea Cave southwest of Osterfair Island, but to get into that cave, the party will need to retrieve the Moon Fragment from the Tower of the Moon near Tuhn. So, the next location will be the Tower of the Moon.
Thanks for watching!
