Dragon Warrior III [NES] Playthrough #34, Jipang; Cave of Jipang: Pursuing the Orochi
This is video #34 in my Dragon Warrior III playthrough. After teleporting back to Baharata, the party sails up the coast to the fabled land of Jipang. The Jipang Shrine is on the mainland (time index 2:05). The person in the northwest room comes from Jipang, but a many-headed serpent called Orochi is terrorizing the place. Sounds like a job for the son of Ortega! The travel door in this place leads to the shrine north of Tedanki.
Jipang is on the Honshu-shaped island east of the shrine (time index 3:48). Neat music here. A nice person bids the party welcome. Unfortunately, we learn that not all is well. The unfortunate maiden Yayoi has been chosen as a sacrifice for the voracious Orochi. It also sounds like the priest Himiko has everyone believing his mumbo jumbo that someone must be sacrificed to Orochi. Could there be some connection? The party also learns that Himiko has a crystal ball that could very well be an orb.
Unfortunately, Himiko is none too welcoming.
In the southwest building, the party finds Yayoi hiding in a jar!
Jipang Cave is directly northeast of town (time index 9:15). The route through this cave is fairly straightforward. From the entrance, the party travels in a fairly counterclockwise path along the main outer wall. After going along the southern wall, they turn north into the central chamber. In a side chamber to the east, they find the Noh Mask (time index 15:00). This helmet is cursed, so do not put it on.
Normally, I would have tried to kill some of those Metal Slimes, but I want to keep the party's HP and MP reasonably high.
Downstairs (time index 15:30), there is nothing special on that pedestal to the north. The party turns east and goes across a bridge to a rocky island in the magma lake. Along the way, Angelo the Pilgrim reaches Level 24 (time index 16:14) and learns three new spells: Limbo, Awake, and most importantly, Vivify. That beastie at the end is the Orochi.
Thanks for watching!
