Dreaded Black-FACE BUG - THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM - Special & Anniversary Edition - Let's Play 04
Skyrim SE (Special Edition- a 2016 Remaster) with the AE (Anniversary Edition) update has been finally modded manually with a working build.
I'm using many mods including the ported Oldrim mod "Familiar Faces", a mod which let's you import your old characters or any new characters that you create as party members in your current playthrough, they can also be set to NPC's or enemies. There is a limit of 12 characters that you can import to the same game at once.
In this video I'm starting a Let's Play as Brunnhilda, the female Nord - starting in the main city of the Stormcloaks (Nord loyalists) with the backstory of a Stormcloak loyalist. I will activate the other 11 heroes created in the other video, and then try to locate each one of them, after which I had an issue where I couldn't bring up the dialogue for the Elves nor the Khajit - I managed to solve this and then I started to play.
I'm using the Survival Mode which means the character will get cold, needs to eat food, needs to sleep and so on. I don't think it affects allies, but it does affect the playable character.
There is a darkskin-bug in this video and in a few after this before i found a mod that fixed the issue. The issue turns parts of the face or the entire face grey when characters use their magic.. It needed a mod to be fixed, and was caused by the new custom heads and faces not being the exact files that the game wanted to load, but the mod somehow fixed this issue. A mod I'm not using until later.
I'm restarting my let's play using the Familiar faces mod plus additional mods, due to me wanting each character to have unique starting stones and classes attached to them, I also didn't want them all to use bows, or having access to every single magic or starting equipment- I nerfed the characters, made them unique, made sure that all of them were level 1 and replaced the level 5 female Nord from my earlier playthrough (the one with heavy armor and a mace) with an Argonian Rogue- who unlike the others is a male. I replayed a bit in the starting area and gathered the entire crew - all the characters were remade and some of them did get new hairstyles as I thought the old one didn't fit the armor, and caused graphical issues like the hair going through the armor which looked bad. When I tried starting the game after loading a save, because the game had crashed- then unlike earlier I couldn't play it normally because all the faces of the Familiar faces imported hero characters now had black faces!
- It would seem that a mod supposed to fix the "black-face"-issue instead caused it to happen for me.. I didn't have it earlier, but instead I had this odd glitch that also happens with vanilla faces where the head turns partly grey or entirely grey when characters use their magicka or other abilities.. I thought wrongly that the black-face bug was this grey-face bug, and so I installed a mod to fix it - and after this all my characters had black faces out of the Familiar Faces followers - not other NPC's nor the main character. I then had to re-install the game twice until I finally seemed to get rid of this bug... But now instead most saves get a black screen when loaded, even though they work rarely but mostly result in a black screen.
Prior to installing the "fix" I had no issues. Modding Skyrim SE AE is the most frustrating hair-pulling thing I've ever experienced with a game.... I started modding it on December 30th... And it's still giving me trouble.. But I do want follower mods that do require other extenders like the SKSE utility.
The weird thing after re-installing is that the game works perfectly fine when unmodified, and I can also load my saves just fine with one Familiar Faces hero- but when I start adding more the saves stop working.
The video is at 1 hour, 11 minutes long.
