Dune Intro: Yamaha YMF262 vs. Aureal Vortex 1 vs. Aureal Vortex 2
Hello friends,
here is just a short comparison between the Vortex 1 and the Vortex 2 vs. the original Yamaha YMF262 FM on the basis of the intro music from the MS-DOS Game Dune. I was curious if there is a difference between the AU8810, AU8820 (Votex 1) and the AU8830 (Vortex 2) and discussed that with you in the comment section of a previous video.
N8tehNotGr8 has a Vortex 2 card and kindly sent me some records to make this comparison possible. Thank you!
Notes:
1: The YMF262 part was recorded on a Packard Bell Sound 16A wich basically is an Aztech card. Please don't mind the background noise.
2: The Vortex 1 (you can see in my prevous uploads) is an unbranded low-budget card.
3: The Vortex 2 card is a Turtle Beach. In comparison with the Vortex 1 there seems to be some kind of 3D effect or spartializer going on. You can also see that the left and right channels arent identical here. The game is in Adlib OPL2 mode (mono) so maybe there is a kind of 3D effect / spartializer activated in the driver settings? If you can explain this N8tehNotGr8, please comment down below!
Anyway, you can hear that basically the FM core of the Vortex 1 and the Vortex 2 is identlcal. Both are a bit off in my opinion.
4: To show this and because i have no picture of the Vortex 2 card, i just do a screen capture.
