Dune's Sandworms | EXPLAINED
Frank Herbert’s 1965 magnum opus, Dune is set tens of thousands of years in the future amidst a feudal society of noble houses vying for control of planetary fiefs. They all want one thing, the most valuable commodity in the universe, spice mélange. Spice being an awareness spectrum narcotic drug capable of expanding the user’s lifespan, vitality, and heightening their awareness to a near superhuman state. That drug is endemic to only one planet, a planet host to a species of immense worm-like kaiju with an extremely interesting physiology and history. __________________________________________________________________
