Dungeons And Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara, 1996 Capcom (20 From '96 Part 17)
Lush, entertaining sequel to Dungeons and Dragons: Tower Of Doom. Pick from a Thief, Elf, Dwarf, Fighter, Magic User or Cleric (or in up to 4-player simultaneous play pick multiple characters) and go on a rather protracted adventure, with many different paths to take and countless enemies and bosses to slay. Each character has an assortment of attack moves at their disposal-- like pressing down, down-forward and forward and A to do a charge attack, down and up and A to do an aerial attack, A and B together to do an energy-costing desperation attack, down, down-forward and forward and B to do a slide, down and B to crouch, etc. Not to mention all the spells the characters can use, or alternate weapons (usually limited, but a couple have infinite firepower like the Thief's sling). Pressing button C will call up your alternate weapon/spell menu, and pressing D utilizes said weapon/spell. So many other items can be picked up by defeating enemies or from treasure chests. Shops will be visited on occasion, and not only can you get (somewhat) helpful items, you can also talk with the shopkeepers and get helpful hints-- or they may get annoyed with you! Many other items can be picked up from defeated enemies or treasure chests, and there will be some places on the path or treasures that contain traps! The Thief is able to alert you of impending traps (a red skull icon appears). In general I like the Thief, the Dwarf and the Fighter perhaps best-- though each character certainly has very useful strengths (especially the Magic User's spells!). Tons of places and alternate paths to explore and tons of items to find in this deep game and worthy sequel to Tower Of Doom.
