Impressively fluid 2D digitized sprites and 3D pre-rendered graphics highlight this rail shooter sequel to AREA 51. Actually, both games are available to play in one arcade cabinet called MAXIMUM FORCE DUO! In this game there are 3 missions-- each with 3 levels, and the last only playable when the other 2 have been completed-- all involving taking down a drug cartel. The allies from the first game are not present in this one (cops/SWAT team members), but you do get plenty of annoying civilians getting in the way and costing you a unit of life when shot. Your power-ups are but two: shotgun shells and rapid-fire bullets, both limited. As in the first game you can shoot so many objects like crates, barrels, windows, tires, flowerpots, etc.; and doing so can perhaps unlock a secret! These secrets are almost all bonus shooting galleries where you try to take out as many targets as you can before the time expires. Sometimes you'll get command of a vehicle to speed through the level with, like a scuba jet or motorcycle. You'll need quick reflexes for the enemies that pop up in front of you quickly. Amusingly, the shot enemies explode in a messy splat! Fun, impressively detailed rail shooter sequel to AREA 51.
