Breathtaking skateboarding game where you can choose from 6 (and 2 hidden) characters to perform various tricks off of ramps, half-pipes, railings, and Coca-Cola signs (yep, there's plenty of advertising in this game) on a timed course. Some of the tricks are so gravity-defying that you'll almost lose your lunch! An actual skateboard is the controller for the arcade cabinet and I'm afraid I can't tell you how it works.. but skateboarding was totally in vogue in the 90s so it stands to reason that this game was a hit (though not nearly as much as the Tony Hawk games). As you approach a ramp you will definitely need to perform the trick before the edge or you'll eat asphalt in a rather embarrassing fashion. Running into walls or slamming into barrels is also a really bad idea and wastes a lot of precious time. The main goal is not even to do the tricks (but you do want to accrue extra points), but to collect rings and time-up icons which increase your time, the latter of which are often only attainable through jumps and tricks. The Expert course is full of ramp and jump options but also has some stretches where the time-up icons are super hard to reach or there are stretches where there aren't time-up icons for a long distance. Completing either Novice or Expert lets you play back all your moves. The punk band Pennywise lends their music to this game and their style is quite fitting. Lovely 3D polygons fill this breathtaking game and it's well worth checking out. Runs on the Sega Model2 hardware.
