Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara (Capcom 1996)
A classic arcade action-adventure game based on the Mystara campaign setting from the original D&D table-top RPG game. Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara was developed and published by Capcom in 1996, and was the sequel to Capcom's earlier D&D game "Tower of Doom." Despite the game's appearance as a side-scrolling brawler, the developers did a great job of bringing RPG elements into the game itself. At the end of each stage players are met with multiple paths they can take which profoundly impact the experience of game play, and how the story line plays out.
Shadow Over Mystara brought back the classic characters from the previous game: The Cleric, The Dwarf, The Elf, and The Fighter, along with 2 additional characters, Thief and Magic-U (Magic User).
While the game's theme is centered around Dungeons & Dragons, its game play and characters appear to be influenced by earlier titles such as Golden Axe. Some of the characters appear similar to those of the Golden Axe series, both in terms of their appearances, and the fighting maneuvers executed by each character. You also had a similar ability in terms of selecting from character power-ups and weapons.
It was a Capcom System II title. This video is a full play through of the game. Recorded using OBS - 1080 HD.
