- On the San Antonio Spurs eliminating the Houston Rockets: "They're a machine...similar to us, I feel like: guy goes down, step right up."
- On how well he knows the Spurs over the years: "Us as players, we have respect for them...try to dictate the tempo...They keep doing stuff over and over until they find a weakness. We gotta be on point."
- On if the regular season head-to-head matchups have any bearing on the upcoming playoff series: "It's not like they're thinking about that third game, just like we're not thinking about that first game of the season."
- On Gregg Popovich's innovation: "A lot of the schemes that you see in the league now, it feels like you've first seen them with the Spurs: forcing a guy in the post, forcing him to the baseline, having the double-team come from the baseline, running hammers out of timeouts...somebody screens in the corner for a wide-open three, the wedge pick-and-roll."
- On being an under-rated defensive player: "My coaches don't feel like that...2013 was when I really turned the corner as a defender. Around 2012 that's when coaches stopped thinking they could go at me and get a basket...Once you're labeled something, that's what you're gonna be...People calling a set just to score on me, that hasn't happened in awhile."
