===== ABOUT SUN SHANG XIANG =====
Sun Shang Xiang is a fictional name created in Chinese opera for Lady Sun, who was a Chinese noble woman who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty. She is one of Sun Jian's daughters, and is one of the wives of Liu Bei. In Dynasty Warriors 1, her assumed storyline is that she was taught martial arts from an early age and wants to prove her worth in battle.
Gameplay-wise, she is identical to the regular character Zhou Yu... there could possibly be some range differences considering that she's slightly smaller than Zhou Yu, but I cannot confirm this. She is a character who is light on her feet which means that her movement is slightly faster than the other characters, and her weapon (a Chinese Jian sword) gives her fast strikes as well as a good strike range.
Design and fighting style wise, she is obviously similar to Xianghua from Soul Calibur... always remember though, Sun Shang Xiang came first!

===== ABOUT PS1 DYNASTY WARRIORS =====
This is basically the very first game of the Dynasty Warriors / Shin Sangoku Musou franchise, and is the only one in the series being a traditional weapons-based one-on-one versus fighting game. It is inspired by the historical novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
If I were to loosely describe the general gameplay, I would call it "Virtua Fighter with weapons". The movement and flow of striking is somewhat "rigid" and "stiff", so if you're used to Soul Edge/Calibur and the later Tekkens, you will most likely find this a bit "restricting" if you know what I mean.
Overall it's a pretty good game that is nicely rounded off with many modes of play, FMV CGI sequences and a good soundtrack. Know the roots, Dynasty Warriors fans!
