Note: This playthrough uses a relatively recently discovered patch, which disables the auto lock-on system that normally locks the player onto the first enemy they hit with a normal attack, making it impossible to turn afterwards. (see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHUzuyzu1k4)

Yuan Shao's moveset is pretty much like Liu Bei. Yuan Shao got a small fix for the expansion: his True Musou finisher now connects properly, with all swings being proper separate attacks. Also his C6 causes KO screams.

This time I was a bit more careful about keeping my bodyguards alive. Keeping them off-screen is the best as they distract the enemy while not getting hit much. If they survive the first stage, they'll have enough points for upgrades. All points that I get when the bodyguards level up I put into Defense, as that is the only really useful stat for them.

Hu Lao Gate is just one ambush, Dong Zhuo advances out, and that's kinda it. There are still three bases in the back though, so it makes sense to go there for the Defense +6.
There's also an event where Cao Cao disobeys orders and instantly dies, but it didn't trigger here since Lü Bu got to Cao Cao first.

Guan Du has a unique item tied to how you do the stage. This version of Guan Du has Cao Cao in either the castle or one of the four bases where the supply depot is in the normal version. The deciding factor is whether all the bases have already been opened when you reach the courtyard.
Open all the bases first, and the Cao Cao inside the castle is real. If at least one base is unopened, the Cao Cao inside is a fake, and the real one is hiding in one of the bases. Triggering Cao Cao to teleport is what spawns the unique item.

Chang Ban is pretty similar to the usual, except with Yuan Shao chasing Liu Bei rather than Cao Cao doing it.
Also, despite Yuan Shao being on the attacking side, the music is using the Shu version which in my opinion doesn't really fit the scenario. (and Chase the Wave is simply a much better track)

Fan Castle has Zhang He trapped against a combined force of Sun Quan and Guan Yu. The flood attack this time is preventable by defeating Gan Ning and Guan Ping. The cutscene of Yuan Shao and Guan Yu has two variants, depending on how well Yuan Shao's army is doing. You can also get Ghost Guan Yu if you kill him first but meet the conditions for the cutscene since the developers forgot to check for Guan Yu actually being alive.

He Fei starts with Yuan Shao trapped, and Lü Meng eventually lures Zhang He into an ambush, too, just like Lü Bu in Dong Zhuo's version.
Since I'm playing as the commander, it doesn't matter much, but in Free Mode, this stage can have Yuan Shao dying in less than a minute on Very Hard difficulty. The more Defense your character has, the faster he'll die.
There is also an issue that you cannot raise Yuan Shao's morale in Free Mode, since you're put into Yuan Shang's unit instead.

Jieting starts with Zhang He trapped on top the mountain. (These guys just don't learn...)
The idea is just like the Wei version of the stage. Save the people on the mountain and burn the supply depot.
Xu Huang is set to aim for the commander, so in Free Mode he gets a free pass all the way to the main camp.

At Wuzhang Plains the bombardment has a proper effect, reducing the health of Sima Yi's soldiers, including Sima Yi, down all the way to 1. And defeating Xiahou Yuan makes it possible for reinforcements to show up later.
