Elite Dangerous Beta 3 5K Res Oculus Rift DK2 Dual Head Tracking Virtual Desktop
Continuing my test to challenge DK with 5120 by 1600 res gaming.. this is a 1080p capture of a 5K Oculus Rift DK2 sustained play of the Elite Dangerous now in Beta 3 ..
Playing at a 5K res allows us to read all the text, use all the menus and "oversampling" the game res gives us a superior method for generating FOV .. plus I did say we would be playing this at 8K, 12K or 15 K by the time it releases .. just didn't realize this was possible on a single cinema sized screen... so turn off those surround 12K monitor setups and let me show you how to get that extreme res up and running on your Rift DK2.. or Cardboard, PSVita VR and other FOV2GO like HMDs..
we can do this over the cloud too.. but that I will save for another time.. this is raw play .. including fumbles.. controller blindness is a major issue however skilled a gamer you are.. with WFOV HMDs..
Dual head trackers are used 1. Zeiss which moves the arrow/fly to action and allows me to focus on chrome and text and which also prevents 2. Rift head tracking losing orientation ..in the entire 1.32 hrs you never see me reach for F12..
We also have positional head tracking working to lean closer into detail .
We cannot play 5K 3D yet on the Rift .. but if you try this at home ..or work (JC) you can immediately see the difference an extreme res brings to flight and combat sims .. for a start all the text is legible ... and the added detail even when scaled makes the game look far sharper..
we do this to mitigate the phablet displays issues.. full write up on how and why I play like this to follow @thegameveda
This is raw unedited play to show the devs of the Rift and Freespace..sorry Elite Dangerous where I get into difficulties playing with head tracking ,positional tracking and where controller blindness wearing a HMD becomes an issue.. oh and there's a surprise at the end ...
