Elon Musk gets booed off stage at Dave Chappelle show
On Sunday night, comedian Dave Chappelle brought tech mogul Elon Musk on stage at a performance in San Francisco to huge boos and jeers from the crowd. In a video shared on social media, Musk can be seen standing on stage awkwardly, unsure of how to respond to the negative reception.
Chappelle, appearing to defend Musk, joked that some of the people Musk fired were in the audience. This refers to reports that Musk fired a number of Twitter staff members who criticized him on internal employee message boards. In November, Musk also reportedly cut thousands of jobs after firing outsourced contract workers, including those who fight misinformation on the platform as content moderators.
Musk's appearance on stage and the negative reception from the crowd prompted a tweet from a crowd member, James Yu, who said that Musk asked "what should I say??" as the boos continued for several minutes. Yu added that he "actually felt bad" for Musk.
This incident follows a string of celebrities leaving Twitter, including Elton John, after Musk's takeover of the social media platform in October. John wrote that he would no longer use the site because of its recent change in policy, which "will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked."
The viral video of Musk's uncomfortable appearance on stage and the backlash from the crowd is sure to generate a lot of discussion and speculation about the state of Musk's public image and his leadership at Twitter.
