This is perhaps a very interesting doujin fighting game not because of its gameplay, but rather because of its background. In particular, Emblem of Red was based on a 2003 web novel of the same name, although trying to google that yields only results of this game and EMBLEM OF RED ReSHUFFLE, a sort of remake(?) of the game with different graphics and overall improved gameplay. Thus, I would never know if this was trying to emulate the source material.

Visually, this game is alright. The UI visual style is pretty good - some elements even, like the versus screen style, are even better than what ReSHUFFLE brought into the table later. Gameplay-wise it's... something. It does have long combos commonly associated with most anime-styled fighting games, however movement is a key point that I think this game fumbled in. For one, dashing forward feels weird overall (feels like there is lots of end lag than there actually was), and no airdashing is present here (although ReSHUFFLE adds that later). Those minor caveats otherwise do not impact how I think that this is an okay 2D Fighter Maker 2nd game though.

Arcade Mode is pretty meh. Both Violet Mao and Alkanciel have AI that could be easily exploited, making otherwise tough battles in the last few matches easy assuming you how to properly time the cheese (you can bait their grab/anti-air attempts by jumping, landing in a blind spot (typically crouching or behind them) and punishing them).

I am carefully considering to find and destroy the fella who thought giving bonus boss Xion a super that regenerates all of her meter and regenerating health (that, btw, does not stop until her health bar is full. Not even attacking her mid-regen stops the flow) was a good idea though.

Also, my favorite language of them all, Engrish, is present too! "Teach hit"? Am I teaching my opponent to hit me after recovering in the air? Certainly not the best situation, if I was essentially taunting my opponent to erase like a third of my lifebar.
