Your vision is critical! Protect your eyes!
Dirt, dust, particulate matter and chemicals can be stirred up in the air and blown into your eyes.
Chemicals or other materials can be splashed on to your face and into your eyes. Anything on your hands or gloves can get rubbed into your eyes.
This short video discusses eyewash stations, what they are for and how to prepare yourself to avoid eye damage.
If a corrosive chemical gets into your eyes, the first few moments are critical because damage starts immediately. Know where the nearest emergency eyewash station is located and how to use it. Check it out before you start work for the day.
Do you know how to operate it? Is it operating normally? Full? Unblocked? When was the last time it was inspected? Eyewash stations should go through thorough monthly inspections.
Water and other eyewash does not neutralize contaminants. It dilutes them and flushes them away. An eyewash stations should give a minimum of 15 minutes flush. If you are not sure what is in your eyes, flush them for a longer time.
