It is surprising how much character a game can have when it doesn't follow conventional standards. Point and clicks may be simple but if the execution is done well, it makes a long lasting impression. Samorost 2 exceeds said impressions.
Story is pretty basic. Your dog gets kidnapped by aliens and you go get him back (assuming the dog is a "he"). You traverse peculiar environments, solving "elaborate" puzzles and outplay the thieves at their own game. Plot aside, pretty much encapsulates the essence of any point and click (no worries about needing a million items to pick up at the very least).
I like how methodical the approach of gameplay is in this game. A modicum of logic and understanding to the vibrant yet uncanny design of the areas you come across is required to progress. Thankfully, despite otherworldly notions, much of nature and industrial concepts are mirrored in this game so working with machines or wildlife is not far-fetched. Things in this game may be abnormal, they work in their own way.
What really separates this game from others is how charm is applied to the visual and aural combinations of bizarreness. So many games follow a traditional route and are engrained using straightforward tropes yet this game dares to venture into fun wackiness. A distorted coherence reigns supreme but does not threaten or insult. It's almost sentimental in a way, that many areas are akin of childish explorations in your mind where it wanders to the strangest of places, devoid of reality's shortcomings; a nice form of escapism.
I'm glad I didn't drag out playing this game for too long because it is most certainly a treat to participate in. The Samorost series is an underrated adventure of taste hidden for true gaming enthusiasts to enjoy. It may not reach mainstream mediums but that doesn't take away it being a diamond in the rough. Undoubtedly a gem waiting to shine to those willing to explore and experiment.
