Back then, I enjoyed the Creepypasta phenomenon in the early 2010s growing up as a kid. Fanfics, fan games, watching content creators make content off of them, I'd partaken in a fair amount of it. As an adult though, your lens perspective becomes very different in the realization of how cheesy and dumb these horror "icons" truly are. This game highlights that perfectly.
The story seems to be an excuse just to experience the terrible nature that is Jeff the Killer in this game. The main character, P.J., has motivation to track down and find the culprit who murdered his family as a revenge plot. It seems that the person responsible is apparent Jeff and instead of overpowering the twerp, you engage in traditional horror game. The game makes you go through a handful of situations up until Jeff apparently gets one over you with a dinky pocket knife and the game ends with no satisfying resolution, you simply die. 10/10 writing.
Gameplay is like many horror games where you traverse environments, collecting items needed to progress and the occasional jumpscare to startle you. The game is very dark and even with a lighter, it can be a bit of a pain making your way through areas. QTEs were a nice touch but fell short of the game's overall lackluster experience. The weirdest thing to come across was the dumb vent sequence where you had to rapidly press w rapidly to crawl and considering how long it took, it makes for a hell of a workout of the fingers (up arrow worked too so that was helpful for ambidexterity).
Yeah, this is essentially a meme game. It does have a fair bit more depth to it than some itch.io games I've tried and ended up ditching because of how barren they can be but it's not exactly a backbreaking milestone to surpass. It has its moments but not for long. Hopefully it got a chuckle, if not a smirk, out of anyone who watched the video.
