
Enigmatis Let's Play Part 16 - Would Alchemy Improve HOGs?
It's kind of an odd question, but I think a mechanic of that nature would make more sense out of what you do in these games. You rifle through cluttered areas, specifically picking up items haphazardly, (no, why would anyone want that apple; but that old baseball glove is perfect) but then only keep one of those items you found. In the context of the game there's no rational provided for that behavior. If each item you were supposed to find were to be combined, through a medium such as alchemy, it would at least give some explanation for that behavior. I think the setting would have to be older, and none of the items you'd make could be very mundane and average. You wouldn't use alchemy to make a common hammer you could find elsewhere, but to replicate a puzzle piece that you don't have or a key to unlock a door? That could work. It's just an idea that came to mind in this area, for whatever reason.
