Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Gamecube) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Nintendo's 2002 horror adventure game for the Nintendo Gamecube, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.
Played through the red path with all secret items and weapons collected.
I remember buying this game the day it came out. I was so excited to play it. It was horror (one of my favorite genres), it was developed by Silicon Knights (whom I adored after getting into Dark Legions on PC), and it was the first game Nintendo ever published with an M rating.
I wasn't disappointed. Right from the start, with the reading of the Poe quote and the Nintendo logo turning blood red (shades of Sierra's Phantasmagoria logo screen, anyone?), you just knew you were in for something you hadn't seen before.
Then the intro starts. It alone shows off skeleton looking guys, an old man (sans head and a lot of blood), and one creepy-ass New England mansion that never tries to hide that it's a breeding ground for evil. I don't want to say too much about the story, but the story is by far one of the game's strongest points and I'd hate to ruin it for anyone. Suffice it to say you'll understand everything by the time things come full circle.
I really loved how they split the game up into chapters, each featuring different characters. It is careful to develop just about all of them enough to evoke a sense of empathy with and dread for them. I also loved how place was just as much a character as the people themselves. Though the game only takes place over a few locations, the circumstances in which you revisit them make them feel entirely new yet familiar, which is exactly the feel the story needed the play to come off with.
The action is fast, the scares and mind-f**k moments come fast and furious, and you'll be on the edge of your seat for nearly every bit of plot development.
It's truly an excellent game, and easily one of the top games of the Gamecube's library. Why haven't you revisited this, Nintendo!?
There is a final ending after competing all three paths through the game, but that is not shown here. It will be included in a later video.
