281A playthrough of Inferno Games' 2004 boxing game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Wade Hixton's Counter Punch.
Along with fights with all of the available characters, this video does show the ending, several of the available special moves, and all of the main story cinema scenes. After the final credits I show a fun video against Mimi (involving the ring girl, her testicles, and being counted-out by a Hasidic referee. Good stuff.
Wade Hixton is a really cool title. Deriving more than a little inspiration from the classic Punch-Out!!, it's very playable, looks and sounds great, and is pretty damned hard. It's just too bad that it's so short with so few opponents to choose from. It looks extremely simliar to a 'roided-up Super Punch-Out!! but the game play feels quite different. The basic mechanics work the same way, but it has its own flow and rhythm that takes a bit of getting used to. Just like the Nintendo series, though, it's addicting to play while you learn each of the fighter's patterns, and once you have them down the game is pretty easy.
This is a new playthrough to replace a video I uploaded nearly three years ago. I had uploaded that version in it's original resolution, and it looks terrible now that 720p60 is far more common on YouTube. For as great as this game is, I felt that it deserved better than a YouTube 144p upload riddled with the site's awful compression artifacts when displaying at low resolutions. It was upscaled keeping the GBA display's aspect ratio intact.
