Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem. Gameplay Video. Casual Fun.
Today we have the first Gamecube game I've ever put on the channel. It's a familiar title to those who follow the channel, since it's related to Legacy Of Kain and Dennis Dyack, who created Legacy Of Kain as a series.
This game is a survival horror/action-adventure title of sorts, with really relaxing gameplay and interesting puzzles to solve. It's not difficult or annoying, it follows from Blood Omen Legacy Of Kain on the gameplay ideas but improves on each aspect, making a more cohesive whole. For example none of the puzzles are annoying to figure out at times since the game explains a bit more what to do. The magick system here is a interesting mechanic that really sets this game apart from other titles similar to it, like Clock Tower 3 on the Playstation 2 or the famous Resident Evil games of PS1 and PS2 era.
Also I must add that the storyline is really good. You get invested into this HP Lovecraft influenced lore, and it shows some really good decisions as far as a story is concerned, because it adds what Lovecraft himself sort of failed in my opinion, and that is to make the reader or player for that sake, care for what is going on through defining factions as opposed to taking from cosmic entities and detective style settings under pessimism as the way to justify the stories unfolding. So in a sense, Eternal Darkness is better than the Yog-Sothothery of HP Lovecraft (Yog-Sothothery is his original mythology nickname he gave it himself) and more clearly defined than his works, and I find the game was done very well.
So again this is another obscure sort of retro game that not many people talk about unless if they already know Dennis Dyack's work. So I recommend it to those looking for maybe a starting point in survival horror or action-adventure games, as there isn't a whole lot of brain busters at least until where I left it off (I died because I was rushing with the footage, I set only 2 hours to play this one today), and it gets really relaxing alongside having some very unique and ingenious gameplay decisions that I think makes it a unique experience, similar to Shinobi which I've previously played on the PS2.
