Mega Man 8 Anniversary Collectors Edition. Sega Saturn Version. Gameplay Video. Casual Fun.
Boy oh boy, today we have something special of sorts on the channel.
So this is Mega Man 8, also know as Rockman 8 in Japan, which is one of the first games I've played on a Playstation console back around 1996/1997. This however is the Sega Saturn version, so I'm playing the more obscure, low frame rate version of the game as the Sega Saturn always has frame rate issues in hectic or 3D games because of four channels of graphics and memory coming through the game by default. And that is a real big shame, because the Sega Saturn is actually a amazing system, with some really good exclusives that deserve a mention. As a matter of fact it's right now my second favorite console after the mighty Dreamcast and the Super Nintendo.
So anyway, what is so different or cool about Mega Man 8 compared to the others? It's simple, the graphics are enhanced and look realistic this time while also feeling like the old cartoon style of the series, the levels take more onto the memorization than they do at trial and error like past Mega Man games (like the 1st game's infamous Guts Man stage) and Mega Man and also his enemies received massive upgrade on how they fight and react. So now you have many abilities throughout the experience, and so does your opponents, and the trick to success is on using the right ability or getting the right ability at the right time. So it's less random than past Mega Man titles, which is very welcome.
So I really like this one, and dare I say I even love this Jazz + Trance music style better than the original Hard Rock from the Nintendo days. Of course Mega Man X and Mega Man 2 are likely the best soundtracks ever created for a 2D platformer alongside Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden, but considering what they have done to a transition towards the CD based consoles like the Saturn and Playstation, than I can only say this is very good, because it fits Mega Man's Sci-Fi universe pretty well.
So again, I recommend this title to those who are curious at a jumping start to the Mega Man games, and also I apologize for the glitch at the end of the video that didn't allow me to finish the experience. If not for that, I probably would have beaten the game, as I was having a blast playing this one.
