Prince Adam was brought to life stunningly by Dan Stevens in the 2017 live-action remake of this Disney classic. This beautiful rendition added so much to the complexity of the character of Beast through the breathtaking moments of emotionality. One of the most amazing things I noticed while researching and working on this video was that Beast’s voice changes when he starts showing cracks in his bravado. When we hear him speaking of his love for Belle, we hear his voice revert to its princely state but as he starts to build up walls in his life it returns to its gruff, textured yet gorgeous voice.
This was an incredible challenge and I loved taking it on head first and recording a video that I am beyond proud of. Growing up, I adored this character because again, I could see myself in him. Yes, he is a beast but he also struggles with trust and letting people into his life till he meets Belle. I could feel every musical phrase resonating in my heart and this project truly reminded me of why I love performing so much.
Finding a balance between these two variable tones while also focusing on the sheer emotion being drawn out was a very difficult challenge but one that taught me so much about character embodiment and performance.
This film will always hold a special place in my heart and I am so humbled and honored to present to you all my take on The Beast, Prince Adam.
