This is a scene from a play that I wrote and performed in months back when I was 9 months pregnant (and praying I wouldn't go into labor until after all the show performances were done, ha). Called "Small and Simple," the show focuses on how life can throw punches at us at the most unexpected times, and that in those times, small and simple acts of kindness can have the biggest impact.
It was a neat experience to play a part in the show -- I promise I didn't give myself a lead role, hahaha. I actually spent most of the show hiding behind the drop-down screen in the background, creepily listening to the audience reactions -- something that helps me learn what works and what doesn't with scripts I write. But I was able to play this small part of "Jenny," and talk about something I truly believe -- We're all going through challenges. If we only knew what each other was going through, maybe we'd have a little more compassion for each other, and possibly even more gratitude for our own trials. So every day I try to live my life assuming that those around me are going through something tough, and it helps me humanize and care for even those with whom I may not have much in common with otherwise. Life is hard, but it can also be great.
Our sweet little boy, Kyler, was born just three weeks after closing night. Kinda crazy that he knew the stage before he even knew the sunlight.
May each of you out there know the great worth you have. (And thanks for taking the time to actually read the video description!)
